Basement Makeover!

Before Tyler and I moved into my parents basement we gave it a makeover! This was our old laundry room from when I was growing up. Lisa and I painted over the paneling to make it not look so much like paneling :)

It is now our kitchen! My parents moved their old fridge in there for us and my mom, Tyler and I installed kitchen cabinets! They are so nice!

This is a picture of the basement from Brian's mission homecoming! (We don't really have any more recent pictures of this room which kind of shows how much we use it)

Lisa, Tyler, and I removed the blue wallpaper and scraped off all the glue! (NOT Fun!) Then it was time to paint!

4th of July Star!

I don't really have any 4th of July decorations so I decided to look for something today. I wanted something that I could hang on my front door, but Tyler said that wreaths are for Christmas, so I picked out this star at work instead. I thought I would try and add color by cutting out some of my scrapbook paper and gluing it on.

Here's how it turned out. Now I just want to figure out a way to make it last for a long time, rather then just one year!

(P.S. If anyone knows how to change the color of text on blogs let me know! I can't remember how to change it for past posts and new ones, so I can only use blog backgrounds that are dark so that my writing will show up!)

Fun Ideas!

Here are a few fun things that I have been working on lately! I looked at my fridge the other day and didn't like the ugly magnets I had on there. (They were all those thin magnets that you get off your phone book.) So I started to look for magnets but then decided to buy a roll of adhesive magnet and try to come up with something to put on them. I went through my closet at my parents to see what I had and I found my bag of key chains. I decided to use my key chains as magnets and I think they look a lot cuter than my other magnets!

I decided that I wanted to have curtains in our living room, so last Saturday Tyler and I went looking. We found some really pretty ones that are reversible! I love having them, it makes it look finished, and not so boring.

They sell monogram letters at the garden center from Jim Shore and I liked them so I tried to come up with something to say with them and finally decided on FAMILY!

Probably a month ago we went and bought the supplies to make spice racks but finally got around to working on them today! I have several spices, thanks to my mom! The bottles aren't the typical size for spice racks, so me and Tyler came up with our own idea for a spice rack. We made one of them today and will have to make the others another time. I wanted to make four, but we'll see how many we end up with!

I'll show better pictures when I can actually fill it with my spices. Right now its sitting outside so that the spray paint can finish drying!

So these are a few fun ideas that I've had lately and it's been fun working on them!

Family Pictures

While we were in Ohio we went and had family pictures taken. I think they turned out great! The photographer took a ton of pictures and only charged $50.00 and gave us the copyright, what a great deal!

As you can see, Tyler has already started to get tanner from working outside this year! (It only gets worse too, it's not fair!)

This is the last family picture we'll be able to get for 3 years because Wes will be on his mission and then Ryan will go on his mission a year later!

Trip to Ohio!

We had a really fun time in Ohio! We drove the 24 hours out there and then were able to spend a week with Tyler's family! Some of the fun things we did while we were there were have family pictures taken, go fishing, and visit Amish Country! While we were in Amish Country we went to a cheese factory (above) where they have samples for you to try, and you can see where they make the cheese. Then we were able to visit some furniture stores, craft stores, and eat!

New York City! (lots of pictures)

We had a great time in New York and were able to see many fun things! Here are a few pictures of our trip!

On our first day there we went to the wax museum and took pictures with several famouse people! Here I am with Lucy (I also have pictures with Rachael Ray, Super Man, Elvis, James Bond, Hulk, John Wayne....)

Here's Lisa with Morgan Freeman, he was just out on the street! (If only it was really him!)

The next day we tried to go to Regis and Kelly but we didn't get in, so we walked down the street and just one block away is the Temple! It was fun to see it in amongst the other buildings.

This was my favorite part of the Natural History Museum. I want to see a tree that is that big some day (that is still alive)!

They had a parade for the Yankees and we accidentaly ended up here when the parade had ended! What a mess, there were newspapers everywhere! They obviously are prepared for this with their machines. I guess they have several parades and expect the mess!

This was my favorite building at Times Square! The Hershey building! They have so many fun signs (Its a really small store on the inside, really crowded).

One of our favorite things that we did while we were here was see a Broadway show! We got to see Wicked! It was awesome!

After Wicked we went to the Stardust Diner where they sing to you while you eat. They walk around the diner and interact with people, it was fun (but really loud)! They are all trying to be on broadway and are working there til they do.

On Sunday after church we were able to go walk around Central Park with Julie, Erik, and Ginny! We had a fun time being able to spend the day with them!

We went to the Today show on Monday and had a fun time watching how they do things. We got to shake Al's hand and saw everyone else from a distance. We kept getting missed by the camera but were able to get on Tv at around 9:00 am!

Someone was nice enough to take our picture while we were at the Statue of Liberty!

It was fun being able to see the Statue of Liberty in person!

I had a great time in New York and am gratful that I was able to go!

Pumpkin Carving!

Tyler and I had fun carving pumpkins on Halloween! For one of Tyler's pumpkins he carved a haunted house which turned out great!

For my pumpkin I carved a cute face instead of a scary one!

We had to go find small candles so we could light them up. We put them out on our front porch even though no one could see them because of our railing. I think they turned out cute and it was fun carving them together!

Apple Pie!

I made my first pie crust all by myself! It was fun and I think it turned out great! Ever since I saw the movied Julie and Julia I have wanted to cook more so I have been trying!

We didn't get any pie pans for our wedding so I went out and found one. Look how cute it is!

Here's the pie! It was really good. My mom and I bottled the pie filling before I got married and I was excited to finally try it out! Yum, Yum!!!

We were able to have our friends at the cabin again this year! We did this last year and had a great time so we decided to do it again.

We had lots of great food, each person was in charge of a meal.

We had a great time this summer! We had a lot of fun fishing; one of our first fishing trips was when my dad took us to Strawberry Reservoir. He brought the boat and we had a great time, even though me and dad didn't catch anything. Tyler caught 4 or 5 fish so he loved it!

Bathroom Makeover!!!

I was able to help makeover the bathroom at work! It was a lot of fun and a lot of work. Kristan and I were able to do most of the work with a little of help here and there. My mom gave us the idea to work on the bathroom and helped us before she went down to Texas. We were all excited to work on the bathroom because it needed a lot of work.

The shower was really bad! This is the whole reason for the makeover. The walls were very dirty and stained. The floor was just cement and looked very dirty. We had a shower curtain that covered the shower but people would always pull it open. (I''m sure I would open the shower curtain too before I used the restroom to make sure that no one was hidding in there)!

Doesn't it look like you could actually take a shower now? (Even though it will never get used, except for emergencies, at least it looks good for everyone that uses the restroom).

Here's Kristan and I working on taking off all of the cupboard doors.

As you can see the first color of the cabinets were pink and then they were painted blue. I decided to paint them black because I though it would look more professional and clean.

I thought it would be cool to leave off the door and just use the area for display because we didn't use the cupboard for anything before.

And after!!!! My mom said that I could use things from around the store to decorate the bathroom. We have broken things that we can't sell so I used a lot of those things in there like the two pots in the top cupboard. We got them in this spring and they came to us broken so I put them out in one of the storage rooms. I remembered that we had them and I thought they would go perfect in the room and they do! The shower curtain matches them great.

We had this tree outside the bathroom before, but it was green, and gold and looked old, so we decided to paint it black to go with the restroom and I think it looks cool!

My mom had the idea to put something in the shower so that no one will get in there and play around in it. The shower is only for emergencies so we don't want people playing in it.

I found these cute letters and thought they would be fun decorations to put in the cupboard right inside the door, but they were too tall, so I hung them on the wall!

It was a lot of fun to get to re-design the bathroom! I think it turned out great. It was fun to do all of the work too. Its fun to know that I can do these kinds of things in my own home some day!!! Thanks mom for giving me such a fun project to do at work!!!!

Our Fun Camping Trip!

We were able to go camping last weekend with Brian, Baely, Tally & Lisa! We had a lot of fun and were glad we were able to go. The weather was good for us in the Canyon so we didn't get wet and had a nice weekend. (We even had a moose visit our camp. We ran to our cars, and the moose ran through our camp!)

Lisa forgot her camping chair, so when we were sitting by the fire, she used some wood to make a seat. Tally saw this, so she wanted to have her own seat built out of wood too. She kept bringing more wood over to add to her seat, she never really sat in it for too long, because she was always trying to make it better! It was so cute!

This was Tally's favorite rock to climb. She brought Lisa, Baely, and me over at different times to help her climb it!

Searching for worms!
They were able to find several worms so that they could go fishing! Tally tried to help by dumping out the worms at first. Later she would just look at the worms, but she wouldn't touch them.

Tally wanted to help Tyler get ready to fish, and she liked his tackle box! She's holding her own fishing pole in her hand too! (I found her a stick so she could hold her own pole and not need someone elses)

Tally is not afraid of water at all, she wanted to climb in all day!

Family Pictures!

The day after Tyler's brother David got home from his mission we went and had family pictures taken. We went up to Millcreek Canyon and had aunt Kris take our pictures. We also had Daniel and Kyle taking pictures with three other cameras so that we could get a good picture out of one of them. It was lots of fun trying to get everybody to smile and look at the same camera all at the same time!

I think they turned out great! Everyone looks good in red white and blue! We also had a perfect day for pictures. It was one of the few days where we didn't have any rain!

Its been fun having everyone out here to visit and pick up David. We had a lot of fun together! Most of the family is headed home to Ohio today, and Wes and his friend Kyle are headed to Canada. What a fun summer!

We are greatful for our families and all of the fun times we are able to have together!

Trip to the Cabin!

We were able to go up to the Thayne family cabin in the Uinta's this past weekend! It was a lot of fun. Tyler's whole family is out here because David is getting home from his mission on Thursday so they came to pick him up.

We were able to have fun at the cabin with Steve, Becky, Wes, Ryan, Bethany, Devin, Kyle, Kris, Kelly, Shannon, Kathy, and Tom (and their three dogs). It was nice to just relax, read, play games, and go fishing.

I wanted to fish for a little bit, so Tyler let me use his pole (which will be mine some day when he buys a nicer one!). I only fished for about 15-20 min. and I caught a fish. Even though it was really little one it was still fun to catch! I haven't been fishing for forever. My favorite part is to cast, I don't really like to let it sit out there for forever because I want to throw it in again. I guess it worked out this time because I actually caught something.

Here's a couple pictures of our garden that I haven't posted. These are the bulb pots that my dad gave us for our patio! They were beautiful and made our garden feel more like a garden. It was fun to have flowers and color out on our balcony to look at.

Our plants don't get enough sunlight on our balcony so they aren't nice big plants. I didn't think that we would get any peas because they have been struggling a lot, but I went out and looked tonight and we had ONE pea pod! I was so excited that I had to take a picture. Its such a cute little pea! (It's in the middle of the picture at the bottom!)

I am so lucky to have such a great husband! He made my birthday so much fun! He had a hard time trying to think of what to get me, but he did a great job!!!!

He couldn't wait to give me my presents on Monday, so he gave me one on Saturday. He gave me a necklace that I could wear to church on Sunday, and then on Sunday on our way back from church he said that I could have another one of my presents if I wanted one. So we stopped by our car where he had all of my presents hidden in the trunk. He took out two presents that were beautifully wrapped in shopping bags and asked me to pick one. I chose one and opened it and it was Sense and Sensability the Book and Movie! So we watched that together on Sunday (He was very nice to watch it with me!) Then on Monday he came and took me out to lunch at Cafe Rio! When he picked me up at work he told me he had another present for me in the trunk. He opened the trunk and there were wooden TV Trays back there so that I don't have to eat on the floor anymore! Then he took me to my door and on my seat was a bag of Reeses Pieces and a card. He gave me a gift card to Kohls so I can pick out my own clothes. Then after work he gave me my last present, another Jane Austin movie called Persuasion. We then went over to my parents house for a fun BBQ! What a great Birthday! Tyler made it so fun for me!

Fun at the ZOO!

I got to go to the Zoo on Wednesday with Cynthia, Spencer, Kaitlyn, Baely, Tally, Mom, Dad, and Spencers Sister, Brother in Law and Nephew! I had so much fun, I hadn't been to the zoo for a long time, so it was nice to get back there! We met there in the morning and there were a lot of other people there too. We walked through and saw all of the animals and then we had a picnic. Tyler wasn't able to come because of work, so we are going to go on a Saturday together!

SCHOOL (til Fall)!

Tyler finished his classes at LDS Business College on Tuesday! He has one more year left at LDS BC and then he will be going to either the U, USU, BYU, or somewhere else.

It will be so nice to have Tyler home everynight now instead of getting home at 10:00 pm from his night classes. He also doesn't have homework anymore which he is very excited about!

I got to go and meet some of his school friends on Tuesday. We went to dinner at Tucanos and had a fun time. They were all in Accounting together and decided to go out to dinner before their final in their class later that night.

Now we both are working full time and get to leave together in the morning and sometimes get home at around the same time! We're looking forward to a great Spring and Summer together!

Cynthia tagged me and told me to pull up my picture file and click on the second folder and post the fifth picture. I opened mine up and this is the picture I found! Cynthia took pictures of me when I was going to have my bridals taken but it was raining so we went to our yard and took our own pictures. She then downloaded the pictures from her camera on to my computer. This was one of the other pictures that was on her camera.

Tyler and I decided that we wanted to grow some vegetables this year on our balcony. When my bakers rack wouldn't fit inside our apartment, Tyler put it out on our balcony. We found some plastic pots and decided what to plant.

We chose to plant:

peas, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, onions, carrots, potatoes, and strawberries!

It's fun to watch the seeds sprout and we check them everyday. It's fun to plant our own garden for the first time and we've loving it!

I have pictures of our planting experience, but I still need to take pictures of our sprouts, so I'll post those soon!

The Effects of the Economy

I had a meeting with all of the sales assistants for Hamlet Homes on friday morning. They talked to us about how hard the economy has been on their business and that they needed to let all of the sales assistants go. They wanted to do it in a group so that we knew that it wasn't because of our job performance. They just really can't keep us right now.

This was, in a way, a blessing for me. I didn't want to have to ever quit, but I hadn't felt completly comfortable either. I worked by myself and people walked up and down the streets all the time to get to the bus and Trax. I didn't like being in the office by myself and was worried. My aunt gave me some pepper spray, in the form of 'Bear guard' to keep with me so that I could protect myself. Luckly I never had to use it! The other reason I wasn't comfortable was because I had been asked to work on a Sunday and told him no. And I didn't want them to ever ask me again because I would have to say no, I didn't think he would be happy. I don't work on Sundays!

It was a nice experience to be able to work at a new job and get some experience with sales and homes. Now I am going to be working full time at the garden center! It is getting to our busy season so this happened at the perfect time.

The Perfect Valentines Day!

This year was both mine and Tyler's first Valentines Day where we actually had a Valentine! It was fun to actually enjoy the day instead of it being "single awareness day"!

I woke up and Tyler told me that I couldn't get out of bed, because I usually get up before him. I had to stay in our room, so he brought Gilmore Girls in for me to watch while I waited for him. He brought me breakfast in bed! He bought a cookie cutter to make the eggs and then had to do the heart pancake by hand! He also gave me a teddy bear, roses, chocolates, and a card.

( I got Tyler a wedding band that he can wear to work while he's doing landscape, so that his really nice wedding band doesn't get ruined)

The Happy Valentines Day sign is from Tyler's grandparents who are on a mission in London England!

Tyler made me dinner which was great! We stopped and picked up a heart shaped pizza for the main part of our meal, garlic bread, salad, and he also got Sparkling Pear juice!

You can kind of tell that it's a heart if you look closely!

Tyler is such a great Valentine and I am very lucky to have him!

OUR FIRST APARTMENT!

We had several people stop by our apartment within the first couple of weeks we were married and they all said that it looked like we have been living there for a long time. We already had everything hung up on the walls that we were given for our wedding! Tyler was so good at hanging things up for me. While I was putting things away, he would ask me where I wanted something hung, so I would come out and tell him, and go back to what I was doing, and he would hang it up! What a handy Husband!

Here's our entry way. We have a rack on the right that we can put our shoes on so that we don't get our carpet dirty. Our "office" is right next to the entrance. We don't have a second bedroom so it's nice to have a place to put our desk.

This is looking into our apartment from the entry way. The end table was given to us from Tyler's mom and the couches were given to us by my grandma!

Here's our dining room/Tyler's homework area! We bought the table from the scratch and dent store for a great price! ($60)

Here's our kitchen which we like and dislike. We're greatful to have a dishwasher, but it doesn't really clean our dishes that great, our fridge is also old, and has broken drawers, and our drawers in the kitchen get stuck and fall off of their tracks A LOT! But other then that it's a great kitchen!

At the end of the kitchen there is a laundry area, and storage shelves!

This is one side of the laundry area, which you can't see very well, but it's so nice to have! We bought a washer and dryer with wedding money! Thank you everybody!

Here's our bedroom! We got the bed from my parents for our wedding! My mom also made the quilt for us. She quilted the temple on it which is beautiful! A lady that I work with gave us pillows for one of my showers so that I would make my bed. I am proud to say that we make our bed every day!

Here's the bathroom on the left. We have pretty things for our bathroom from my mom! You can't really see them, but they're there. The only bad thing about our bathroom is that you have to get to it from the bedroom. But I guess that's a good thing too, because then we have to keep our room clean!

Our walk in closet is on the right and I love it! I've never had a walk in closet before, its so nice!

We can also store our towels and sheets in there on the shelves which is really nice because its right next to the bathroom.

We both love our apartment. It feels safe and the ward is really nice, so it's a great place for us to live right now. You are all welcome to come and visit us anytime!

Party! Open House! Party!

It was Tyler's 23rd Birthday on the 22nd! My Mom, Dad, and Lisa came over on the 21st to give him his presents and have cake with us! Tyler has school til 10:00 pm on Thursdays (which was his birthday), so we celebrated early!

On the 23rd we flew to Ohio for our open house out there! We got there on Friday, the open house was on Saturday and we flew back on Sunday. Fast trip, but we had a great time!

Tyler got a new Suit from his parents for his birthday! He looks very handsome in it!

We were able to eat at our open house!

The Chocolate Fountain was our favorite!

The food was great! Becky did a buffet for the open house!

They put up lights all around the room. It looked great. They also had fake trees and poinsettias throughout the room for decoration.

Tyler got another birthday cake! He's so lucky. We had a really nice breakfast on Sunday before we left for the airport! Steve made us some great food!

New Job at Hamlet Homes!

I started my new job on Monday January 5th. This was the week after our wedding and honeymoon. Tyler started school and I started work. My friend Jen, who I graduated from Weber with, told me about the job because she wasn't going to be able to work there anymore because she was going back to school. So I applied a couple weeks before we got married and started the week after our honeymoon.

This is a rendering of what the building I work in looks like. I'm in an office on the bottom floor, and there are areas for businesses in the bottom floor and then condos on the other three floors. They have two models that are done, and they look amazing! They have all the upgrades though, so they cost more. The other condos don't have all the upgrades but they are really nice as well. Most of them are two bedroom, two bathroom. They have really nice kitchens, and they come with a washer and dryer!

Most of the day I sit in the office, answer phones, and wait for people to come in and ask questions. I have been able to show a couple of people the condos. It's not as scary now that I know more about what I'm doing.

So that's my new job! I work for Hamlet Homes, and the building I work in is Birkhill located in the Fireclay District of Murray.

Our Perfect Wedding Day!

Our Wedding day was perfect! After six months of being engaged we were excited that our day was finally here. We got married in the Bountiful Temple at 10:00 am. We were lucky that it wasn't snowing because we didn't want to have to drive up the steep hill in the snow. It snowed hard on Christmas so everything looked beautiful covered in white snow.

We had a luncheon at 12:30 pm and it turned out great! We had fun with all of our family and friends that were there. We're lucky to have so many great people in our lives.

To finish our day we had our reception at the Grand Ballroom on Main Street in Bountiful at 6:00 pm. It was absolutly perfect! My mom and I spent a lot of time planning and working on everything for the reception so to see it all come together so well was exciting! We had so many people help us get ready. Family and Friends helped do flowers, food, set up decorations, clean up, serve.... Thank you everyone for all of your help!

We are excited to be married and start our journey together!
